On Wednesday, June 4th, the Park District held a ceremonial groundbreaking event for the project at the corner of Woodridge Drive and 71st Street. Woodridge Park District and Village Staff members were in attendance, in addition to elected officials, including State Senators John Curran and Rachel Ventura. Following the 40th annual Woodridge Jubilee Festival, the contractor began site preparation and the mobilization of heavy equipment onto the site. Construction is now underway, beginning with mass grading work throughout the site. Construction will continue throughout the summer toward a point of substantial completion in late fall, at which time Jubilee Point Park will be opened for public use. The highlights of this development phase include a community picnic grove with a large shelter, playground and supporting amenities; relocated and redeveloped community garden plots; and an extensive network of multi-use paths providing multiple looped routes for walkers in addition to connections to adjacent neighborhoods, the Village’s municipal complex and Jefferson Jr. High School.
