Mowing & Seeding Status

As the Park Maintenance division begins to ramp up seasonal maintenance and mowing practices this spring, the District respectfully asks for residents’ patience as crews strive to catch up on mowing throughout the parks and facility grounds. The ongoing rain events, extended chilly temperatures and minimal time of drying periods have resulted in many areas being unsuitable to mow, especially in low-lying areas. The weight of the mowers would do more damage than good, and therefore some areas will have to wait until suitable grounds conditions exist.

Additionally, several park turf areas, including Mending Wall Park and Castaldo Park, that experienced significant turf damage caused by disease as a result of last year’s drought conditions, have recently been reseeded or are soon to be scheduled for restoration. Please note that it takes a minimum of 14 days for new seed to germinate and several weeks for healthy turf to be reestablished under normal growing conditions.
