April 14, 2016 – The Woodridge Park District and a hired outside contractor completed prescribed burns this spring at 11 locations throughout the district. Burns were completed at the following locations: Duke Street Basin, Orchard Hill Park, Vicente Outlot D, Windy Point Park, Hawthorne Hill Woods, Cypress Cove, Ide’s Grove East Park, Mending Wall Park, Summerhill Park, 63rd Street Park, and Lake Harriet.
This concludes the prescribed burn program for spring 2016. Prescribed burns are part of a natural areas management process and were conducted by trained Park District staff or a contractor. Additionally, all burns were supervised by an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager. Prescribed burns are a management technique used for improving site conditions for high quality native plants while reducing invasive weeds.
