February 6, 2019 – Crafting for a Cause, a group of Woodridge Park District active adults, have been sewing, crocheting and knitting since 2015 and in 2018 alone, they made nearly 3,500 homemade items. These homemade blankets, scarves, hats, pillows, dolls and even backpacks were donated to local groups and hospitals in need including Edward Hospital, Almost Home Kids, St. Scholastica Church and the West Suburban Food Pantry.
This close-knit group consists of 32 members and meets every Tuesday at the Woodridge Community Center to plan and work on their crafting projects. According to Crafting for a Cause leader, Jenny Giertz, the group regularly reaches out to hospitals and local charities to learn what specific items people need. “We are passionate about our hobby and love helping out others while we have fun,” said Jenny.
