April 3, 2019 – Don Ritter oversees more than 1,000 recreation programs each year and that’s just one of the responsibilities that fall under the two hats he wears at the Woodridge Park District. As the Superintendent of Recreation for the last 23 years, Don is responsible for planning, promoting, and administering a comprehensive recreation program based on the needs of the entire community. In his role of Deputy Director, he assists the Executive Director with the overall operation of the district by performing administrative tasks.
After working at his local park district in high school, Don fell in love with the industry. He attended Southern Illinois University and earned his degree in Recreation Administration. Don enjoys being part of an industry that provides people healthy and fun activities and feels lucky to be a part of a park district and community where he has met so many wonderful people and families.
When Don isn’t working you can find him at a sports game, particularly in Iowa City. He and his wife have three sons who all attended the University of Iowa.
