May 8, 2019 – The Woodridge Park District Community Center was officially renamed the Fred C. Hohnke Community Center in honor of former Park District Board President and Park Commissioner who served on the board for 30 years.
A dedication ceremony was held on Friday, April 26 for current and former Park District staff and commissioners, Village of Woodridge staff, community members, elected local and state officials, and friends and family of Fred Hohnke. During the dedication, Illinois State Senator John Curran and Representative Anne Stava-Murray spoke about Fred’s passion for recreation and contributions to the community.
In addition to his selfless service as a Woodridge Park Commissioner, Fred was also a Past President of the Illinois Association of Park Districts, Trustee of the Illinois Institutional Investors Trust and past Trustee of the National Recreation and Park Association Great Lakes Regional Council
After the dedication, many leaders expressed their thanks to Fred including Illinois Association of Park Districts President/CEO Peter Murphy and former Mayor of Woodridge, William Murphy. Village of Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham presented Fred with the “Building on Our Dream Award” for exhibiting a character of sacrifice through giving, a dedication to the community through his actions, and true desire to improve the quality of life in Woodridge through his contributions.
