Mike Adams began his journey with the Woodridge Park District in 1990 as the Superintendent of Planning & Development. In 1996, he was promoted to Deputy Director and in 2006, he was named Executive Director. In his current role, Mike plans, promotes, and executes all phases of park and recreation functions; serves as the administrative head of all departments and divisions of the Park District; and functions as the medium of communication between the employees of the Park District and the Board of Commissioners. Prior to Woodridge, Mike worked at the Downers Grove Park District from 1987-1990 as a Landscape Architect.
Working in the park and recreation field and the Woodridge Park District has endless benefits according to Mike, but the best part is the pride he feels working with selfless and passionate professionals to plan, design, and provide high-quality facilities, parks, programs and special events. Additionally, he feels the most satisfying part of the job is observing the lifelong friendships made between so many individuals and families because of the park district and the many recreational opportunities it provides.
When Mike isn’t working, he enjoys playing soccer, basketball, softball, golf and pickleball, running, and biking; especially with his wife Peg of 30 years and three adult kids: Caitlin, Jenny & Matt. He recently retired from coaching both recreational and traveling youth soccer and basketball after a 20-year stint. He is a true south-sider who was born in the “Back of the Yards” neighborhood, a Sox fan and when not eating healthy, loves a Palermo’s pizza, Ricobene’s beef sandwich or Jr’s Chicago-style hot dog.
