September 20, 2019 – Construction is underway on a site lighting project at Lake Harriet to improve overall safety, security and aesthetics along one of the most heavily used paths in the community. The lighting project will provide pedestrian overhead lighting (20 total fixtures) along a portion of the path south and west of the lake. Also included in the project will be the uplighting of a grove of large Oak trees just south of the lake (9 total uplight fixtures). All fixtures installed as a part of this project will be high-efficiency LED fixtures. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity awarded the project a grant funding of over $140,000 towards the project (85% of the costs). Construction activities will continue throughout the month of September, and the new lighting will tentatively be operational in early October.
