The Woodridge Park District earned a prestigious award in the Intergovernmental Cooperation category of the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Best of the Best competition for their partnership with the Village of Woodridge for the Town Centre property, now officially named “Jubilee Point Park.”
“The Intergovernmental Award recognizes park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation, and special recreation agencies and the units of government with which they have an agreement that have created successful intergovernmental agreements or partnerships that maximize tax dollars and benefit residents throughout the community,” according to IAPD.
The Woodridge Park District was formally recognized at the IAPD Best of the Best Awards Gala on October 20, 2023.
Since 2005, the Woodridge Park District and Village of Woodridge have joined forces through several resolutions and intergovernmental agreements to fulfill a shared vision to acquire and preserve 44 acres of open space identified as the community’s “Crown Jewel” located within Woodridge’s Town Centre area which consists of over 175 acres of contiguous properties owned by the District, Village, Library, School District and Post Office.
After notice of an OSLAD grant in 2023, the District and Village approved a final amendment to an intergovernmental agreement for the District to purchase the Village’s 50% ownership share of the Town Centre property to: 1) protect and preserve the property now, and for future generations in perpetuity, for parks and public grounds, including open space recreation areas and/or park and recreational facilities; 2) integrate and align control of the property into the mission of the Park District; 3) commit to the Park District’s stewardship, management and programming of the property; and 4) provide a high level of stewardship, maintenance and care of the property. In June 2023, the District officially acquired full title to the property. Plans are underway to construct the Phase 2 community park development plan that includes a large picnic grove area with shelter, ADA accessible playground, multi-use activity court and pickleball courts, pathways, parking, and relocated community garden plots tentatively scheduled to start in Summer 2024.
